Mentimeter has a variety of Keyboard Shortcuts that can help you to be quick and efficient in changing different settings while you are presenting. We’ll highlight a few shortcuts and how they might be useful and link to the full shortcut list below.
- B (Blank Screen): Pressing the letter B on your keyboard will black out your Mentimeter presentation screen. This could be helpful if you don’t want your learners to see the current slide (maybe it has activity answers on it).
- To remember it, think B for Blank or Blackout.
- H (Hide/Show Responses): Pressing the letter H on your keyboard enables/disables showing student responses. This is helpful if you want students to have time to think while they submit their responses and not be able to see what others are posting. Press the H key on your keyboard to hide responses (it will still tell you how many responses are submitted, just not what they are); then, press the H key on your keyboard again to show them when you’re ready.
- To remember it, think H for Hide.
- I (Show/Hide Joining Instructions and QR Code): Pressing the letter I on your keyboard shows/hides the link/code and QR code for students to join the lesson. This is helpful at the beginning of the lesson, or after class breaks when students might have logged out of the Mentimeter. Press the I key on your keyboard to show the instructions and codes, then press it again to hide them and move on with your lesson.
- To remember it, think I for Instructions.
- 0-5, 8-9 (Countdowns): Pressing number keys on your keyboard start timers on your screen. These can be helpful to provide visual reminders for how long students have to work on an activity or how long a break is.
- Numbers 1-5: Sets a timer for as many minutes as the number you selected (i.e., “5” sets a timer for 5 minutes)
- 8: Sets a timer for 30 seconds
- 9: Sets a timer for 10 seconds
- 0: Cancels a current timer
- K (Keyboard Shortcuts): Pressing the letter K on your keyboard will open the hotkeys overview. This will pop-up a screen for you only to remind you of the keyboard shortcuts available. This is helpful because there are so many keyboard shortcuts and sometimes we need a quick reminder, or you might want to explore using a new one not listed here!
- To remember it, think K for Keyboard.
