Managing Grade Posting Policies

Effectively managing the release of student feedback in Grades within MyCanvas courses is crucial. Grade Posting policies can be tailored for specific grade items or the entire gradebook, dictating when students can access assessments.

  • Automatic: By default, grades and feedback on system-graded quizzes (like fill-in-the-blank, true/false, or multiple choice) are released to students upon submission. Any grades and feedback generated in the SpeedGrader are also immediately viewable by students.
  • Manual Posting Policies: When applying these, grades become automatically hidden from students. Graders need to remember to post the grades once grading is complete. If grades are not manually posted, students will not see the grade values and gradebook totals will be inaccurate.
  • Hide Grades/Post Grades Option: This feature only affects previously-posted grades and the vendor "suggests that instructors should use this feature sparingly (i.e. to hide grades posted in error)". If you change or enter a grade value for an item where you’ve applied Hide Grades, that grade value will be visible to the student.
